It's time to
Create A Board

It's time we come of age as a community. The volume of traffic has created costs and time demands that have grown substantially. Management and administration have almost become full time jobs. This admittedly is a problem we wanted to have all along. The saying be careful of what you wish for, because it might come true, I can officially report indeed has basis in fact. There is considerable merit in what we have done but we must do more.

Initial thoughts about how to proceed:

A HHP organization will be created and governed by a nine-member board, which will meet electronically or otherwise on a quarterly basis. A three person executive committee will meet monthly to conduct business between regular board meetings as necessary. The board will have responsibility for organizational oversight, policy formation, and long range planning. Continuing education for board members regarding board effectiveness and self-evaluation will be integral to the board's operating activities.

This is going to be hard work. Consider your ability to make a commitment when contemplating service on the board. There will be differences of opinion and compromise - everyone knows a horse is a mule designed by a committee. It is also true that honest debate and discussion are necessary for the good decisions.

Send e-mail to self - nominate yourself or suggest a nomination for someone other than yourself. Explain why you think the nominee is a good candidate, what knowledge/experience is being brought to the organization and any other reasons why the board would benefit from your/their participation

We need to raise money to accomplish programs that will address the goals identified in the organization's mission statement. I expect some immediate controversy when I announced $ 19.95 (USD) annual access fee for membership in the forum. A $29.95 annual fee in the HHP organization will include forum membership, a subscription to a quarterly newsletter and the right to vote for board members. I expect to seek 501-C-3 (not for profit) status for the HHP organization. However, this will take time to achieve. After we secure such designation we will pursue contributions for research, educational and other purposes.

Initial board composition will be made by appointment, board advisory committees will be created and open to all who wish to participate.

I respect and appreciate all the tremendous outpouring of support and ideas over the past two years. Diversity of membership and ideas is what makes a strong and vibrant organization.

It's time to create this new model for a virtual health services organization. At the conclusion of the laying of the first transatlantic cable, a little over one hundred years ago, Cyrus Field asked the question, "What has God wrought?" We are fortunate to be among those who are present at the creation of a new, exciting and practical entity, global in scope that can make a difference. We have a long way to go. Let begin.
