What you should DO.
Do:
- Directly tell your patients that they have genital herpes (don’t dance around it).
- Realize that they will be upset and will cry (now or later) - this is for life!
- Give them information on first visit!
- The day-to-day fact of what GH is, and how you deal with it, are usually not that bad.
- Most of what upsets people relates to
- the stigma
- misinformation
- consequences on present and future relationships
- Give them antiviral drugs immediately on the first visit!
- There are no ethical or theoretical reasons not to unless pregnant
