• HSV-1 most often associated with herpes labialis (cold sores)

  • Over 50% of humans acquire HSV-1 before the age of 6.

• HSV-2 most often associated with herpes genitalis

  • HSV-2 seroprevalence increases between ages of 15 and 25 (i.e. sex)
  • ~20% of Americans are seropositive for HSV-2
