Varicella-zoster virus (VZV)
Over 95% of adult humans are seropositive for VZV
Primary infection with VZV is usually:
- symptomatic (very obvious)
- highly contagious
1/3 of adults that have no recollection of
chickenpox are still seropositive for VZV.
- Possible to have asymptomatic or mild infection.
