Celebrities With Herpes.

To avoid potential legal problems, (and who needs those?) I've edited out the list of names, but left the link to the website that has the article. -Rajah

some people had mentioned whether celebrities have the H too.

i found this site, none of them seem to act as if their life is over, or seem to have trouble finding relationships!

Actually, when I was first coming to terms with my diagnosis I found it comforting to think of celebreties who had herpes.

Hmmm...I'm torn...I realize that it may be comforting to those who are into celebrity worship. But I wouldn't want to see my name on a list like that. We all have the option of remaining anonymous when we post on this site. How do you know that one of them doesn't post here regularly? Bill Clinton might send the secret service after you or worse...Pamela Anderson might send Tommy Lee after you.

Well, im in the UK so would take a while.

Not trying to hurt their feeling, in fact id be inspired if people, refered to me in such an inspiring way.

in a slightly different way, alot of my friends do, they see the abuse i`ve recieved and the quite severe infection ive got, and think well if she can still have a smile on her face, why the hell am i complaining about my other half, guys etc.

i`d still date robin williams, so if people think, why would someone date me with this, they`ll say, because im unique and special in my own way etc like they are.

Adam Sandler admits to having herpes and he is a total hottie! If we tested every celebrity for Type1 most would come up postitive. It appears that herpes in some form is almost impossible to avoid! Also, Michelle Pfeffier has cold sores and you do not see the hunks avoiding her!

There are two types of herpes Type one is the cold sores around the mouth Type 2 is sexually transmitted and is around the genitalia. Sandler has Type 1 Big difference

Actually it is not that big of a difference. Type I can easily turn into Type II, and Type I can be spread just as easily as Type II.

This information was obtained from www.herpeshelp.com

There is a huge difference. Who told you that HSV-1 could turn into HSV-2?? That is a complete falsehood.
HSV-2 is sexually transmitted and hides in the spinal ganglia where it lies dormant until it flares of which the virus travels through the nerve to the spot on the skin where the infection occurred. Herpes Simplex 1 does not and is simply a cold sore. If you folks have any questions, talk to a M.D. There is a lot of bunk on this forum.

I agree, Doc, that post is totally wrong. Thanks for pointing it out. There are probably other comments from time to time that are off-base and we don't always catch them.

Either type of the virus can infect any part of the body and type 1 is diagnosed genitally quite often nowadays. In some demographic groups it's the predominant type of genital infection. I have to think that's what the poster above was getting at, but the terminology was wrong since the type really has nothing to do with location.

Had to pipe in..."just a cold sore" is STILL Herpes Simples Type I and CAN be and IS BEING diagnosed in the genital region because of the prevalence of oral sex these days. 1 in 4 people in america currently carry the Herpes Virus. While type 2 lies dormant in the spinal ganglia, type 1 lies dormant in the mandibular nerve and becomes active from stress/sunlight/etc. please educate yourselves and others. Because it lies dormant so much, it is being passed around like the plague because of ignorance. Learn more.

much higher than 1 in 4. Studies show that something over 80% of adults test positive for herpes type 1. The 1 in 4 number applies to to genital type 2 herpes.

I definitely agree that education is the key to reducing the spread of herpes and eliminating some of the stigma.

Actually, one in four refers to genital herpes, both types one and two. ~30% to 50% of the cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-1 and ~50% to 70% are caused by HSV-2. Be aware that there's a ton of misinformation out there, some of it comes from doctors and nurses, some from websites.

Lance had testicular cancer and almost died. I am sure herpes is hardly a concern for him considering what he has been through and overcome.

Besides, it's not fatal...important to remember.

I did include that as well, I'm not trying to call you a jerk. Schadenfreude is more complex than that.

Even the Queen....

As a matter of fact, I tried to get Sandra Bernhard to be our keynote speaker at our national event in NYC in 2002. I tried various ways of contacting her but to no avail.

I also emailed Anne Heche after her TV appearances where she talked about having herpes, but she never responded.

I question the truth of this, specifically because it's a *gossip* site. I did a quick search of some of the names and found very little to back it up. Janet Jackson's and Robin Williams' came from news stories of law suits, but in neither case has there been proof or admission of them having herpes.

The gossip sites a shit site in general, and that list is completely fabricated. I bet that there are some cool celebrities out there with herepes, but i cant possibly see where they sourced their information from...

Look, misery loves company. To many of us who are newly diagnosed with herpes, its a little comforting to know that other, especially those we put on a pedistal, have the same condition. I know it made me fell better.

It doesn't make me "happy" to know about celebrities or public figures who have it, rather it makes me feel less of a leper (let's face it, when you're newly diagnosed that's how you feel). There is comfort in knowing that you are not alone, that it is common and that even people you wouldn't have thought to have it do..and that they are leading successful and fulfilling lives! That's what it's about, not getting off on another person's misfortune, but about "community" of sorts and realizing that we are not alone in this (for those who haven't come to those terms already).

That is so very true. I take no pleasure in knowing that these "successful" people also have the disease. There's a reason they call it a disease, it is unwanted, unpleasant and annoying, and sometimes painful and depressing.

The fact that so many people have it and still function normal lives should serve as some form of inspiration.

It could be worse, you could be HIV+, or have cancer, or diabetes. I work in a hospital and I see what diabetes does to people...slowly...over time...and THAT is torture. I am sure those people would gladly trade that affliction for herpes....and laugh about their good fortune.

Think about it.

I know this is totally off topic, but I wanted to know if someone could help me out on this. For the past few months, I have been getting these little red bumps on my vulva, I'm not sure if they're herpes, because they are more pimple-like. Anyways, I had the doctor check them out, and she even tested them for HSV and the tests came back negative. I'm still thinking though that I could have HSV... has any one had a similar experience?

Celebrities are people too...They just make more money than you and I and their 15 minutes of fame has lasted longer than mine. I don't feel any better or worse knowing someone "famous" has herpes. They would go through the same grief, anger, hatred process that most of us went through...Anyone posting here could be famous and you don't know it, are you going to support them more or less because you like or don't their songs or last movie.

I'm just saying that with the stigma that herpes has, when i was diagnosed i felt like i was worthless and no one would want me again. people seem to act like only those with multiple sex partners or nasty people can get an std and yes, i know that neither of those are true. im not saying that i feel good bout anyone else having herpes. i could care less bout what a celebrity's last song or movie was...its the fact that i see u can still have a successful and happy life (as a celebrity or any other professional career like a doctor or lawyer, but we dont see many doctors or lawyers on tv) even with this at a time when i feel like that will never happen to me...

Ok babe, HSV1 & HSV2 are the exact same virus under the microscope, and HSV1 can easily be turned into HSV2, believe me I KNOW... a cold sore for my one night stand, turned into HSV2 for me... so NO they're not 2 totally different diseases, they're the same one, but just in different places. OK

SmartGrl I don't know if you're still reading, but I think you're confusing the virus type with the virus location. HSV1 and HSV2 are two distinct viruses. HSV1 can't become HSV2, but HSV1 can certainly cause genital herpes. And on rare occasion HSV2 can infect the mouth.

Thanks Lar, I fixed it

Celebrities are humans too, like all of us, make mistakes.
Most importantly is that we must wake up,and not to repeat that mistake again.
Herpes is not too bad.
Treat it just like a warning from God,to us not to have casual sex.
Evertime an outbreak happens,it would make us realise, that we had mad mistake, and never to repeat again.

but what bout those people who didnt get the virus from casual sex? or those people who got it from an assault or rape? or the people who have continuous obs? having an ob to realize we "made a mistake" is a little cruel, especially with the fact that even when u do get into a serious relationship or married u can still pass it to the person u love. but if thats how u deal with this thats fine with me, but i sure cant deal with it with that ideology. even for those who have casual sex that doesnt mean that u deserve a life long disease.

THATS WHAT A FUNDAMENTAL RELIGIOUS IDEOLOGY DOES... IT SUFFOCATES ANY SENSE OF COMPASSION OR A CHANCE TO FIND REAL TRUTH. "GOD" HAS CHANGED FROM UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OR LIGHT TO A BEARDED MAN SITTING UP IN HEAVEN PASSING JUDGEMENT, AND HANDING OUT PUNISHMENT.

"HERE, HAVE HERPES FOR HAVING CASUAL SEX"... SUCH BULLSHIT

REALLYWORRIED IS RIGHT, PEOPLE CAN GET IN IN LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS, FROM RAPE ETC...

LEAVE UR NARROWMINDED "GOD" TALK OUT OF IT, DOESN'T HELP ANY1....

   Dear ForgiveMe,

Your coping mechanism suffers from lack of substance. There are many herpes sufferers who got this disease as a result of rape, or in the course of deceptive relationships. There are millions more who got this disease from their asymptomatic husbands and wifes, who may have themselves gotten the disease through assault or even God Forbid through a single mistake. Since when have humans become so perfect that those who have done any mistakes or were else infected as a result of other people's mistake deserve to have a life-long disease?!!!! I personally know of some peole who have slept with many many people and are still herpes-free. Does this mean that God forgot to punish them and instead decided to punish me who was raped at age 21, or decided to punish my husband who was a virgin when I married her at age 29 and became infected while I was asymptomatic and had no idea I had this disease?
Your ideology is the basis for the STIGMA that std's carry. So consider a revision of terms for the sake of many innocent sufferers and for the sake of many slightly less than perfect humans who may have caught this by just making one mistake in their life time.

Excuse me???? "those who have done any mistakes or were else infected as a result of other people's mistake"????

Well, I have herpes, and I made no mistakes! I was sexually involved with people who were important in my life, people who were (and still are) intelligent, loving, clean living, respectable, people who I esteem, who I've learned from, and all the other good things. Whoever gave this to me amongst them probably didn't know he had it or didn't know it was contagious when asymptomatic, and whoever he caught it from was probably someone who he esteemed and cared for.

Herpes is not punishment for a mistake. You can catch it even wearing a condom. You can have it for 20 years and not know, whether you get symptoms or not. Cut the crap with the "one little mistake". Stop trying to put the blame on other people and kicking yourself by thinking you made a mistake. This is how it works: you have sex, you risk catching something. That's life! Get over it.

I have had no problem dealing with this except for getting very annoyed by hearing people talk about how they made one mistake and got herpes. If loving and trusting someone is a mistake, then living is a mistake. You do your best to acheive good judgement capacities, you trust yourself. If you have bad judgement, then your problem is bad judgement and herpes is the least of your problems. Learn to distinguish the bad guys who don't care if you catch something from the good guys who don't know they have it or know that it's contagious when they have no symptoms.

Personally I'd rather have herpes than bacne or chronic halitosis. I am content.

   Hi in a mess,

Your post might seem like "pointing fingers" to some, but I recognize and appreciate the positive intent of your post. It made me feel good to see that these movers and shakers are living with herpes and living their lives quite successfully. Some of them may even choose not to hide it from the media.

Thanks for the post

Interesting reading, I have just been diagnosed and feel like a piece of worthless sh*t, I was not casual, my new partner told me she had been tested and that I was the bigger danger... what a fool I have been to believe her, I had been retested already, but did not force her to retest before we left the condoms out...

as for celebrities, actors and singers get high and do stupid things ALL the time so knowing they have been as foolish as me does not actually make me feel better but does add some perverse comfort that I am as stupid as everyone else... if everyone walked down the street with a badge I would feel better knowing I'm not alone but I guess the outing of celebs does that for me right now... sadly...

A celebrity is like a common freind to us all. we all know adam sandler, we've all hung out with him by enjoying his films, snl, etc.
while i apreciate the people here, i don't know any of you. everyone is faceless.

Hearing that there are other people out there w/ HSV is a little bit comforting... you know you're not alone. Hearing that someone you know has HSV is even more comforting because it hits closer to home.

I am comforted and inspired to when i hear Adam Sandler has HSV. I see him continue with his life... and it lets me know i can do the same.

I don't know how many of you follow NFL football, but I get this fantasy football email every so often, and today there was a surprising tidbit about one of the NFL's hot commodities.

Falcons: Vick being sued

The News
Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick is being sued by a Georgia woman on negligence and battery charges. Sonya Elliot, a 26 year-old health care worker, claims that she was infected with herpes after having an unprotected encounter with the NFL star, according to The Smoking Gunn website. Elliot claims that Vick later apologized for not warning her about his alleged medical condition. She added that the league's highest paid player also uses the alias "Ron Mexico" when he seeks testing or treatment.

Our View
Well, this certainly brings new meaning to the Michael Vick Experience.

so this is unrelated. and i dont know if anyone uses this thread anymore. but. yeah. im just coming to the realization that i do have this. and ...fuck. i know, its not the end of the world. & i know it doesnt necessarily have to be the end of my sex life. but to even have to say "necessarily" in regards to that is.. horrible. like realistically. if HPV1 and HPV2 can exchange locations, and by letting a girl i may be with in the future go down on me, she could get it, in hpv1 area...i could never let that happen. meaning dental dams would be the like only hope, for the next 50 years of my life... assuming thered even be someone interested in par taking in such inconvenience with me. like even if the person had it too. it can still spread.and who wants to chance that shit in their mouth. right? or vice versa, more so right? .ah. i dunno. hopefully this isnt offensive to anyone. ive clearly not come to terms with this yet. i dunno. someone tell me im wrong. tell me not to be so bleak lol. i wish. i suppose i shall end this ramble.

Hey Girl,

You will get more responses if you start your own thread in either Under 25 or Support. But maybe you feel more confortable starting a post where no one will see it?

I'm not sure whether you are talking about HPV (human Papilloma virus) or HSV (herpes Simplex virus). Were you diagnosed with herpes (HSV)? If so what type of herpes do you have? The type of herpes is important is figuring out what risks other people have. Also what method did they use to diagnose you? Visual diagnosis is crap. Blood tests and/or culture are required to confirm a herpes diagnosis.

HPV and HSV are both a bit complicated, but plenty of people can and will deal with the inconvenience of either disease. You're not stuck with dental dams forever.

If you aren't comfortable posting yet, you can register as a member and can private message anyone here without a public post.

I honestly havent been diagnosed. I guess based on what i am pretty sure was an outbreak that i had in the past, that i kind of brushed off, and now im having similar symptoms..accumulated with the things ive read..im pretty convinced it can be nothing else but herpes. and i havent gathered the courage to find out yet. which i know is insane, and ill gather the balls to do it shortly..after i freak out a bit heh. im afraid of hearing it. im afraid of what it means. im not even 20 yet. Ive been with less people than i can count on one hand. its like unreal to me. thanks for responding...

   This girl,
I'm under 20 and i have it and i've been with less people than i can count on one hand, too. I feel really sh*tty sometimes, we all do. Don't beat yourself up so much. I've known i've had this for less than a year, and trust me, you should just go and find out, living in the dark is more of a bitch because you don't start learning to deal with it, all you have is the gray place of moping and wondering and beating yourself up. Man, when i found out i wanted to hit some people in the face, i got and narly outbreak in my mouth and couldn't eat anything other than like plain yogurt and cottage cheese, ew. Anyways, i still go through my periods where i get really depressed and just want to join a convent, but just look on the brighter sides, now you HAVE to use condoms, pretty must assuring that you won't get other diseases, chlamidia or hiv. Also, if some guy doesn't want to do you because you have herpes, he's a prick and at least now you know that stupid, worthless, close-minded guys won't be waking up next to you in the morning. Don't worry too much, my friend, look at all of the people that have it, and, yea, it sucks, but if your strong, you can deal. PLus free valtrex if you sign up for a planned parenthood teal card. look into it.
Sincerely,

well, im a lesbian. so it wouldnt be some 'guy that wants to do' me. but even still. like i understand if they didnt want to, wtf, if they do, theres the risk of herpes. even if the person loves you, to risk getting herpes for the rest of yr life..seems kind of extreme.im somewhat drunk right now and probably could wait till morning to respond. but really. i cant imagine anyone being willing to do that... like if youre 21, relationships dont last forever, so why risk such a serious thing, for a not-so-serious relationship.bleh. i dunno. w.e.... sleep is reeling me in.

Just so you know - herpes really isn't that serious.

Its a mild virus, actually, and it doesn't progress, and for the majority of people, its a rash or skin irritation occassionally.

yea, i'm afraid to explore my lesbian side because of this, but hey, dental damns! oh, and i heard that the trick with dental damns is to put lube on your crotch then have at. also, if there isn't much of an abundance of dental damns in your life, you can cut a condom open and use that. i'm sorry, my friend, but it really isn't that hard core of a disease, we don't have HIV. so we should have a party that we just get rashes and bumps instead of losing our white blood cells, or something, i actually don't really know how aids works, but it is a killer, and ours much more of an inconvience than anything else. what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. i get more and more ok with this everyday. and i wanted to tell you that i got this from the guy i lost my big v to, and i've had sex with 3 guys since, they all liked me enough to wrap it up. plus, i'm trying to be an example for my friends. a gay friend of mine said that stright people need to hear that they are not invincable to stds, so i just urge my friends to protect themselves, and i think it might have helped. good luck to you
